The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) is offering summer internships for undergraduate and graduate students.

 

Why should I apply?

As a TSL intern, you will:

  • Have access to unique facilities and subject matter experts in explosives detection and mitigation.
  • Receive hands-on experiences that will provide you with an understanding of the mission, operations, and research at TSL.
  • Enhance your academic and professional preparation to pursue a career in disciplines that support the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

 

Benefits

  • Stipend: Undergraduates $900/week, Master's Candidates $1,100/week, Doctoral Candidates $1,200/week  
  • In addition, you may receive a housing allowance if your permeant address is at least 50 miles from the hosting facility.

 

Eligibility

To be considered, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • Be at least 18 years of age by 5/1/2021.
  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at a U.S. accredited college or university during the 2021 spring term.
  • Have medical insurance during your time at the laboratory.
  • Be able to commit to onsite, full-time participation for ten consecutive weeks.

2020 J.D. Metcalfe College Scholarship Announcement:

The Tulsa Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is pleased to announce the application for award of three $2,000 minimum scholarships to Junior or Senior students in Engineering, Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences programs.

Our annual scholarships are named in honor of Mr. J.D. Metcalfe who was instrumental in accomplishing unprecedented and nationally recognized flood risk reduction initiatives in Tulsa, Oklahoma and was a loyal and respected member of the SAME. During his career as Tulsa Street Commissioner, Mr. Metcalfe’s vision and leadership improved the quality of life of countless Tulsans. These scholarships will recognize students whose accomplishments; associated with scholastic abilities, leadership and love of country; are honored by SAME and mirror the achievements of Mr. Metcalfe.

These scholarships are not limited to students interested in military careers. All applicants in Engineering, Biological Science, or Physical Science programs that meet the eligibility requirements will be considered.

Those receiving $2500 scholarships for 2019 include:

  • Grace Kramer - Oklahoma State University
  • Sa'cha Sells - University of Oklahoma
  • Chenwie Huang - Oklahoma State University

 

2020 Justin Noyes High School Scholarship Applications Announcement:

The Tulsa Post of the SAME is pleased to announce the application availability for three $2,000 Justin Noyes Scholarships to senior high school students who intend to earn a degree in engineering, biological science or physical science.

These annual scholarships are in honor of Marine Sergeant Justin Noyes, an American Hero, who fought and died while serving our country in Fallujah, Iraq. Named for a remarkable young man who was fiercely dedicated to the service of our Nation, the scholarships recognize students whose accomplishments; associated with scholastic abilities, leadership and love of country; are honored by SAME and mirror the achievements of Sergeant Noyes.


Those receiving scholarships for 2020 include:

  • Blake Mumma - 4-year Renewable Recipient - Bixby High School
  • Evan Burke - Mannford High School
  • Jaxson Crull - Bixby High School
  • Madeline Addis - Union High School

Those receiving their $2,000 renewable scholarships from past awards include:

  • Kaitlyn Bell - 2nd year
  • Rhett Phillips - 3rd Year
  • Noah Anderson - 4th year
