GCoE Dissertation Excellence Award

Application Deadlines:

  • Sep. 15 for fall semester
  • Feb. 15 for spring semester
  • June 15 for summer semester

Rewarding and encouraging excellence in research is a core value of the GCoE. The GCoE Dissertation Excellence Award is designed to reward PhD students that have achieved outstanding research results and encourage these students to complete their dissertation with excellence. 

DEA Level, Duration, and Disbursement 
The maximum amount of each DEA is limited to a total of $5,000 and is not renewable. 

The DEA will be distributed in one of two ways: 

  • DEA Option 1: One installment of $5,000; 
  • DEA Option 2: Two installments of $2,500 each, made in two consecutive semesters (fall/spring, spring/summer, or summer/fall). 

All awards will be disbursed directly to the student’s bursar account. Awards will be announced by the 25th day of the month of the application deadline. 

Submission Process 

The candidate’s PhD committee chair will collect all materials from the candidate and submit to: Bethany Burklund, Assistant to the Associate Dean, Gallogly College of Engineering, 202 W. Boyd Street, Rm. 107, University of Oklahoma, Norman, OK 73019. It is preferred that the application package be submitted electronically to: bethanyhb@ou.edu

2022-2023 Patti Johnson Wilson Foundation Scholarship

 

The Patti Johnson Wilson Foundation grants scholarships to full-time undergraduate students majoring in music, engineering, or Liberal Arts.  The anticipated academic award will be between $5000 and $6000 for the academic year.  In granting scholarships, the Foundation trustees consider the academic record, financial need, professor’s letter of recommendation, and the applicant’s desire to supplement his or her college expenses through part-time employment.  The awards are made at the sole discretion of the Foundation trustees.  To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must me the following qualifications:

 

  • Must be enrolled full-time
  • Must be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior
  • Must be majoring in Music, Engineering, or Liberal Arts (Anthropology, Classics, English, History, Languages, Literature, Philosophy, and Sociology)
  • Must have minimum GPA of 3.5
  • Must work part-time
    • The trustees prefer that applicants work at least ten hours per week

 

Please turn in the application to the Financial Aid Office (Buchanan Hall, Room 105) by Friday, March 18th, by 5:00pm.  The application may be found here.

Limited physical copies are available at the Engineering Dean’s Office in Carson Engineering Center, room 107 during normal business hours.

Learn about resources from Simpson Strong-Tie for you and your students, along with our student scholarship and fellowship programs, at our short webinar on February 10.

 

Who: University representatives and staff; University students

When: Thursday, February 10 from 10-10:30 am PST

Simpson Strong-Tie has numerous resources for schools and students participating in our scholarship program for architecture, civil/structural engineering and construction management majors. 

 

Along with providing scholarship winners with $2,000 toward their degree, we offer free resources including a one-week trip to Simpson Strong-Tie headquarters for first-time winners – giving them the opportunity to network with industry professionals and fellow scholarship recipients, along with our top executives. 

 

We also provide students with free courses, videos, informal mentorship, and virtual networking opportunities. 

 

For schools, we provide free product apps, educational videos, opportunities to collaborate or support curriculum, and we are currently creating an online learning portal geared specifically toward universities and students.

 

Simpson Strong-Tie is committed to being a leader in providing educators and students with resources to help further education and industry knowledge.
