F. BROWNING PIPESTEM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP 2018-2019 APPLICATION


Due by: Thursday, April 6, 2018 by 5 p.m. Submit completed application to the OU Alumni Office, OMU, Room 427.

Eligibility Requirements
1.  Current Enrollment at the University of Oklahoma Norman, HSC or Tulsa Campus Undergraduate students: 12 credit hours Graduate students: 9 credit hours Current full-time enrollment at the OU-Norman campus, OUHSC, OU Law School, or Tulsa campus (Only continuing students are eligible; if you are graduating May 2018 you are not eligible unless you are enrolled for the Fall 2018.)

2.  GPA Requirement Undergraduate and graduate students – 2.5 GPA Cumulative Law students – 6.0 GPA

3.  Membership in a federally-recognized tribal nation
 
Application Instructions

1.  Application form must be typed or printed in black ink
2.  Attach a brief essay (single-spaced; 500 words or less) pertaining to the following statement: Attorney, activist, scholar and speaker F. Browning Pipestem pursued a career in law to improve the quality of life for all Native Americans.  Through his work as an attorney and as a judge, Pipestem helped advance tribal sovereignty and felt it was the hope for tribes to empower themselves politically and in the struggle to protect their cultures.  Explain how you will use your degree to improve the quality of life for your tribal community and/or all Native Americans.
3.  Attach an OFFICIAL copy of most recent University of Oklahoma transcript
4.  Attach a copy of Tribal Membership Card
5.  Submit original application documents to the OU Alumni Association Office, Oklahoma Memorial Union, Room 427 by Thursday, March 1, 2018, 5 p.m.
6.  INCOMPLETE AND/OR LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.



***ALL SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE ANNUAL F.  BROWNING PIPESTEM MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP GOLF TOURNAMENT, WHICH IS A LOCALLY- HELD ONE-DAY EVENT TYPICALLY SCHEDULED EACH FALL ON A FRIDAY. FAILURE TO ATTEND MAY RESULT IN FORFEITING SPRING DISBURSEMENTS. MATCHING FUNDS ARE NOT GUARANTEED BY THE OU AMERICAN INDIAN ALUMNI SOCITY ***
