Splunk Offering $10,000 Scholarships for Up To 15 Students

 

Hi HBCU Faculty, Happy Holidays! My name is Olivia DuBois, and I am a Program Manager at Splunk! I recently reached out to share that our 2023 HBCU Academic Scholarship is now open for applications. Our scholarship is offering a $10,000 academic scholarship for up to fifteen (15) students currently pursuing a technology-related degree from an accredited HBCU.  We’d love to partner with you to share this with students on your campus who may be eligible to apply. 2023 National Technical Conference and Exhibition Student Poster and Presentation Contest

 University Student Poster and Presentation Contest 

 

The American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE) supports and encourages university student attendance at the AADE 2023 National Technical Conference & Exhibition through its Student Poster and Presentation Competition. The conference is to be held at the Bush Convention Center in Midland, TX on April 4-5, 2023.

 

AADE recognizes the important role academic institutions play in the future development of the petroleum industry. In support of this endeavor, university students will be given the opportunity to highlight their work through dedicated poster and presentation sessions. The response and participation at previous conferences has been excellent with many high-quality posters and presentations. AADE awarded over $5,000 in scholarships and grants in 2022. We hope to continue to expand university participation through your involvement and are planning on having separate Graduate and Undergraduate divisions. 

 

In accordance with the qualifications listed below, students from each university may compete in the Student Poster and Presentation Contest by submitting an abstract no later than December 16, 2022. Students may submit their abstracts online at www.aade.org. Students will need to create a new account to sign in and submit their abstracts using the “University Student Poster and Presentation Contest” link. A selection committee will decide on paper acceptance and notify students by mid-January.

 

In order to encourage student participation, AADE has set aside grants to sponsor attendance for selected students participating in the Student Poster and Presentation Contest. If the abstract is selected, each student’s grant will provide for travel (up to $600 US) and lodging, if the student meets the qualifications listed below. Travel will be arranged by the student and will be reimbursed, however please make sure that you obtain proper clearance from the AADE Student Committee (Alexander Davis and Kimberly Hepner) prior to making any travel arrangements. 

 

In addition, each AADE Student Section should consult with their respective AADE Regional Chapter as well as the AADE Student Committee prior to making travel arrangements. Proper documentation and prior approval will be required before reimbursing any travel expense. Any additional expenses will be the sole responsibility of the student. Unfortunately, AADE will be unable to provide financial assistance to attending professors.

 

In order to qualify for financial assistance, AADE has set forth the following requirements:

1. The student must be a current student and in good standing academically in their respective department. 
2. The student must be a member of the AADE student section at his/her university.
3. Abstracts must be submitted online by December 16, 2022, at www.aade.org using the link for “Student Poster and Presentation Contest”
4. If chosen, the student must prepare and present work on an appropriate topic with both a poster and a presentation at the conference. 
5. Each author is expected to acknowledge any sources outside their own work by proper reference.
6. The poster and presentation will be non-commercial in nature and of interest to the conference attendees.

The mission of AADE is “to provide the forum for the dissemination of practical drilling technology to those employed or interested in the drilling industry”. There is no better way to highlight this mission than by bringing students to the forefront of new technology where operators and service companies share technology. The EM Graduate Fellowship Program, under the Department of Energy Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM)’s Minority Serving Institutions Partnership Program, is designed to provide science and engineering students and graduates from Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) an opportunity for training and mentorship in targeted technical areas of interest and needs of the DOE-EM workforce.

 

Technical areas of interest for the fellowship will span across a range of topics, including:

 

• Environmental Remediation and Stewardship
• Nuclear Materials Processing and Disposition
• Cyber Security
• Advanced Manufacturing
• Climate Change
• Deactivation & Decommissioning
• Robotics
• Artificial Intelligence

 

The year-long, paid fellowship will:

 

• Offer specialized training, leadership development, and professional networking.

• Must be eligible for security clearance based on position requirements
• Must have earned or be working toward a STEM degree
• Must have graduated from or be enrolled at a Minority Serving Institution

 

Education Requirements

• Must be enrolled in a master’s or Ph.D. program at the time of application AND have a current cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

OR

• Must have completed a master’s degree program AND must have a final cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Fern Holland Award Nominations Accepted Through Jan 30

The Fern L. Holland Award is a $1,000 cash award recognizing a full-time undergraduate woman bearing the same spirit of Fern Holland: a desire to make a significant difference in the world around us in areas such as democracy, human rights, women's issues, or leadership. The award, sponsored by Student Affairs and Delta Gamma Fraternity, honors Fern Holland, a 1992 University of Oklahoma graduate, who was the first U.S. civilian killed in Iraq in 2004. Fern was an active student while at OU, involved on campus and in Delta Gamma Fraternity and the OU Panhellenic Association.

AWARD PROCESS: 
Faculty and staff are asked to complete this nomination form for a current, full-time female student bearing the same spirit as Fern Holland, a desire to make a difference in the world around us via efforts impacting democracy, human rights, women's issues or leadership.

SELECTION PROCESS:
1.  All women nominated will receive an e-mail notifying them of their nomination and congratulating them on their nomination.

2.  All nominations will be reviewed by a selection committee and finalists will be selected. Finalists will be contacted and asked to submit a brief personal statement describing their personal vision and goals, as well as an unofficial transcript.

3.  A recipient will be selected by the committee upon review of the materials submitted by the finalists. The selection committee also reserves the right to invite finalists for a personal interview. The recipient will be recognized at the Campus Awards Program held during the spring semester.

Teach for America's Ignite Paid Spring Fellowship - Deadline to Apply: Dec. 16th

This fellowship partners local college students with local schools to tutor students virtually for one semester. It is a 4-5 hour commitment and each fellow/tutor is paid $1200 at the completion of the fellowship. The deadline to apply is December 16^th.

Three $2,000 Scholarships offered from Tulsa Post of the Society of American Military Engineers
