Women in Aerospace Foundation 2019-2020 Scholarships Opportunity

The Women in Aerospace Foundation is offering four scholarships to young accomplished women who are interested in pursuing a career in Aerospace or a related field. We believe your student body would greatly benefit from this opportunity, as your institution offers degrees in STEM. The following is a list of the qualifications and requirements:

Eligibility Requirements 

• Minimum college grade point average (GPA) of not less than the equivalent of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale
• Must have completed at least two and a half academic years of full-time college work at the time of application, and must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university in the United States or its territories, working towards a bachelor’s degree, and plan to continue to be enrolled in the subsequent academic year 
• Interested in pursuing a career in the aerospace field 
• Entering senior year in the 2019-2020 academic year 
• Must be female, of any citizenship or nationality 

Application Requirements

• High school and college transcripts
• Two letters of recommendation from a professor, or a supervisor of summer or Co-op work experience, or a supervisor of research work. Recommendations from relatives will not be accepted. 
• 500-1000 word essay answering the following question: Imagine that you are trying to explain to someone with no interest in aerospace why aerospace is important. How would approach this explanation and what would you say?

The award amount of the scholarship is $2,000.

Sooner Engineering Education Schoolarship (SEED)

The Sooner Engineering Education (SEED) Center of the OU Gallogly College of Engineering (GCoE) encourages undergraduate and graduate engineering students to apply to be named a Boggs Family SEED Scholar. This award includes a $2000 scholarship for the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semesters.  As members of the SEED Center outreach team, SEED Scholars will assist and eventually lead in planning, organizing, and executing educational outreach activities at the Rawl Engineering Practice Facility and other sites. Other responsibilities supporting the outreach mission may be assigned based on individual strengths and interests. Each SEED Scholar will commit, on average, six hours per week to support engineering education outreach activities and will have at least two week-day mornings free from coursework obligations. Scholars must have a 2.75 GPA and maintain full-time enrollment.

Qualities demonstrated by the successful applicant through his or her application include:

• Ability and experience teaching or mentoring younger students or peers
• Initiative and leadership for completing tasks without constant supervision
• Dependability
• Attention to detail
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Effective time management
• Strong sense of responsibility to a team work group

Applications will include a personal statement responding to these questions (1-2 pages):

•Why do you want to contribute to GCoE outreach?
•What experiences and qualifications will you bring to the SEED Center that will contribute to a strong outreach program?
•What do you hope to learn from your experience?

Two letters of recommendation should be submitted directly by the references to the SEED Center wherein they comment on the qualities listed above. In addition to these letters, your complete application must include your personal statement, a resume, a complete schedule (Fall 2018) showing available times for SEED Scholar activities, a list of additional responsibilities outside of coursework and their estimated time commitment, and an unofficial transcript with cumulative GPA. Application materials should be emailed to jfoos@ou.edu and are due by 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25th, 2018. 

After initial screening, finalists will be scheduled for a 15 minute interview in the REPF during the week of April 30th – May 4th.

Jon P. Nelson Scholarship: Deadline May 1st by 5:00pm!

To celebrate his life and many achievements, friends and colleagues have established the Jon P. Nelson Scholarship Fund at Tulsa Community Foundation. With a special focus for students with financial need, the Jon P. Nelson Scholarship Fund will award scholarships to students who have graduated from a high school in Oklahoma and have officially declared an engineering major with an energy focus at a recognized college or university in Oklahoma.

Jon P. Nelson Scholarship

• Scholarship Criteria:
• Graduated from an Oklahoma High School
• Attending College or University in Oklahoma in Fall 2018
• Declared engineering major pursuing energy career
• Have a 3.0 GPA (unweighted)

• Details: The scholarship is a one-year award totaling $1,000. Scholarship payments ($500 each) will be made at the beginning of the fall semester and at the beginning of the spring semester.

• Deadline: Applications must be submitted online by 5:00PM, May 1st, 2018. In order to meet the timeline for communication of awards, we cannot make any exceptions to the application due date.
