Penn State’s Drawdown Scholars program

 Commonly seen as the most comprehensive plan ever proposed to reverse global warming, the Drawdown mission seeks to pursue a practical, solutions-oriented path ahead for action on climate change. The Penn State Drawdown Scholars program supports that mission by training students in:

• Technical, ecological, and social solutions for climate mitigation
• Climate communication
• Environmental law and policy
• Leadership and professional development
• Team-based project development
• Global engagement

Drawdown Scholars will be paired with Penn State faculty mentors according to their mutual interests to conduct laboratory, field, and/or modeling research to advance Drawdown strategies for reversing global warming in several topics, including: 

• Electricity
• Food, Agriculture, and Land Use
• Industry
• Transportation 
• Buildings
• Land Sinks
• Coastal and Ocean Sinks
• Engineered Sinks
• Health and Education 
• Water-Energy-Food Nexus 

• Program and eligibility details:
• Program dates: June 2 – Aug. 6, 2021
• • Student stipend: $600/week
  • On-campus housing provided*
  • Travel reimbursement up to $400*

Through the WID Scholarship Program, Women In Defense encourages women to pursue careers supporting U.S. national security with a focus on defense or foreign policy. Eligible women may submit applications for funding to assist them in pursuing education on the path to a career in defense or national security. The OKPELS Professionally Engineering the Future Scholarship is a one-time award; recipients of this scholarship are invited to reapply. Recipients may not receive the award more than 3 times. Funds may be used for tuition, fees, required supplies and book expenses. Payments are made in two installments (fall and spring semester) each academic year directly to the student’s school after proof of enrollment has been provided to the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. Payments are issued in the academic year immediately following the application year.

The OKPELS Professionally Engineering the Future Scholarship was established in 2018 to benefit and support creative and diverse student leaders whose goals are directed towards Professionally Engineering the Future through the principled practice of engineering as a future Engineer Intern (E.I.) and Professional Engineer (P.E.). This scholarship is an endowed fund of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation.

 

Award Amount: $2,000

Internship Opportunity at Tinker

The 76th Software Engineering Group at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City is excited to announce that we are accepting applications for engineering and computer science internships for summer 2021. The 76 SWEG is the largest engineering organization on Tinker Air Force Base and is responsible for software design, development, integration, and sustainment of many of the Air Force’s Mission Critical Computer resources. Interns in this program will be exposed to a variety of different workloads and gain real-world work experience in a professional and technical environment.

All of our interns must meet the following requirements: 

• Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science 

• Currently enrolled in an approved, full-time program pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree (ABET Accredited) at a 4-year university (or concurrently enrolled at a 2-year and 4-year university)

 • GPA of 2.5+ with a minimum of 30 earned credit hours 

• Live near or are willing to move near Tinker AFB during the 3-month summer program

 • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance (Air Force will fund the clearance) 

• Possess U.S. Citizenship

The NIEHS Scholars Connect Program (NSCP) is designed to provide a unique opportunity for highly motivated science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) focused undergraduate students to solidly connect with NIEHS and receive training in biomedical research. Students in NSCP have an opportunity for hands-on mentored research experiences, as well as professional and personal development. NSCP is committed to encouraging students to pursue careers in scientific investigation, both basic and clinical. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) is offering summer internships for undergraduate and graduate students.

 

Why should I apply?

As a TSL intern, you will:

• Receive hands-on experiences that will provide you with an understanding of the mission, operations, and research at TSL.
